I admire the people that I help move. Especially the ones that move very long distances and nothing lined up in their destination town. I’ve helped many of them. I find their stories inspiring.
It sounds absurd to move half or even all the way across the country if you don’t have any family, friends, or a job lined up for you when you get there. Yet, people do it. They are willing to trade everything that they’ve got right now for what they plan to achieve in the future. That takes guts.
It’s like jumping into a pool of cool water. It’s frightening, painful, invigorating, and refreshing all at the same time. After some time you acclimate, and you can look back and think, “WOW, that was SO worth it. I’m so glad I did it!”
I once helped a family move out West for a change in lifestyle. They would be buying a house once the one here in New Jersey sold. Their kid was in college also, so it’s not like they were without expenses.
When I asked what they’d be doing for work once they got out there, the wife replied, “I’m looking for work now, but haven’t found anything yet. I’ll keep looking once we’re out there.” She was totally OK with that fact because she had faith that as long as she applied all her potential, then she’d be totally fine. I’m sure she wasn’t completely void of any sort of apprehension, but the fact is that her belief in herself was stronger than any fears she might have.
I love stories like that. It gives me fuel for the goals that I’ve set for myself.
